The Bwindi impenetrable national park encompasses 33,000 hectares of lush and literally impenetrable forest foliage. 60% of the entire national park is about 2000 metres above sea level and displays a diverse temperature zones. Over half of the worlds mountain gorilla population call Bwindi National Park their home. The national park is also renowned for Afro-montane flora, counts of birds including the African broad-bill which is found in the Ruhija Sector and forest animals like duiker and elephants. Owing to the tremendously confusing terrain and expanse of the Bwindi national park, it is divided into four sectors that are the most popular for gorillas: Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga and the Ruhija. The magical hills of Bwindi National Park offer impressive scenery and sightseeing experiences. A visit to Lake Bunyonyi which is not too far from Bwindi National Park, is a pleasant addition to the gorilla trekking experience. The lake is known as the “lake of a thousand islands” because of its 29 small island like surfaces. It is also one of the few lakes that is bilharzia free and suitable for a refreshing dip.
