Itinerary

Day 1 :Arrival :

Overnight at Mountain Inn – Moshi.

Day 2 :Moshi to Olpopongi Maasai Village (77kms) :

We leave our hotel and cycle downhill for the first few kilometers on tarmac roads into Moshi. We then continue for approximately 30kms on tarmac and on mildly rolling terrain towards Arusha.
We turn towards the bustling Maasai town of SanyuJuu and continue cycling through lush landscapes with only a few moderate hills. We will be greeted by local children as we cycle from village to village. The scenery gradually becomes more arid and scrub-like as the road surface changes from smooth asphalt to a more challenging, bumpier dirt road. Banana and mango plantations will be replaced by more typical Tanzanian bush-land vegetation, mostly dominated by the impressive acacia trees.
We reach our overnight camp at the OlpopongiMaasai Village where we will have the opportunity to explore the village and be given an insight into the authentic Maasaiway of life through the museum they keep. We will be treated to a barbecue dinner around the camp fire and entertained by the Maasai dancing and singing.

Day 3 :Olpopongi Maasai Village to Arusha (76kms) :

We start today by cycling through an area sandwiched between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru (4565m), still considered by experts to be an active volcano. The volcanic landscape offers a striking difference to the lush surroundings of Kilimanjaro. There is the potential to see lots of wildlife along the route today including Giraffe, Impala, Baboon, monkey and a variety of birdlife. Once again as we cycle through this parched landscape we will witness day to day life as we pass by a number of Maasai villages. Cycling becomes much smoother again when we reach the not too busy Nairobi – Arusha road.
The price to pay for the smoother surface is a number of medium grade climbs. A long descent awaits us as we finish the day by cycling into the bustling town of Arusha, the main town in northern Tanzania where our overnight hotel awaits us.
